O2 Media Teams Up With Food for the Poor in ‘Walk/Run for Hunger’

September 16, 2011

PRLog (Press Release)Sep 15, 2011 – (Pompano Beach, FL)  Fighting hunger takes a team effort, and that’s why O2 Media is sponsoring Food For The Poor’s ‘5K Walk/Run for Hunger’ at Quiet Waters Park, in Deerfield Beach, Florida.

Food For The Poor has had a strong presence on O2 Media’s national morning show, “The Balancing Act,” which airs on Lifetime Television.  In 2010 the show featured a segment called ‘Build a Village’ with a little girl name Rachel. Ten year old Rachel Wheeler raised $170,000 to build 27 two-room homes in Haiti.

After filming at O2 Media, Rachel’s new quest has been to build a school in Haiti.  Co-host Kristy Villa, who is the master of ceremonies at the 5K Walk/Run, will catch up with Rachel at the event to ask her what it was like to inaugurate her village and to meet the residents.  To watch the original segment with Rachel on The Balancing Act, click here-

At the event, which takes place on Saturday, September 24th, both hosts of the Balancing Act, Kristy Villa and Danielle Knox will be welcome runners and will lead off the start of the race.  They will also be honoring the top runners during the medallion ceremony afterwards.

O2 Media’s PR & Brand Manager, Steve Zucker says, “We try to concentrate our philanthropic efforts locally so that our team can participate. At the Food For The Poor event, producers of the show will be at our O2 Media booth meeting runners, handing out our quarterly magazine and signing people up for the show’s VIP Club.  We love meet the viewers– and our producers love hearing from them.”

The ‘Walk for Hunger’ was established to bring awareness to the chronic malnutrition affecting the Caribbean and Latin America. The South Florida community made a tremendous impact for the poor last year with over 500 walkers raising enough funds to feed more than 2,000 children for an entire year.

Deerfield Beach 5K Walk/Run sponsors include: O2Media, Lifetime TV, The Balancing Act, Southern Women’s Show,, Bush’s 620-SUBS, Wells Fargo, Whole Foods Market, HUMANA, Lynn University, and Closets Etc., LLC.
